freezer in outbuilding
6 Answers
I want to buy a freezer to use in an outside building. I have read that some freezers don't work well in a cold garage/shed. Can anyone shed any light on this? Would a chest freezer or an upright one work better?
Any input greatly appreciated.

A chest freezer is generally cheaper to run than an upright because when you open the latter the cold air drains out of it whereas a chest acts a bit like a tub in this respect - any replacement warmer air then needs to be cooled down.
Hi Buidersmate, I probably won't remember it correctly, but I think it is to do with the compressor, and the insulation, obviously it is a lot colder in an outhouse or garage,so they most aren't as efficient, I think whirlpool do one that is an ordinary freezer but works well in cold conditions, I had never even thought about it till an architect stipulated a particular one for a job last year, but as I say can't remember all details, Ray
This is what I remember reading, that some freezers don't work so well in cold conditions. Always struck me as odd, as the thing is supposed to keep things cold and you would think being in a cold place would give it a head start.
