hate to be the bearer of bad news, being a business user(meant to have proper account managment!) working at home who has moved twice in the past year, all they can do is issue you a job number, they will not guranatee the telephone number they allocate until the install has been done at the exchange by the engineer on the day. Both times they failed to do what is termed 'experdite' which is the procedure at the excahnge to switch the line from analouge to bband on the same day as the line is installd. Both times i had to wait an extra 2-3 weeks for my broadband to be up and ready. (again, i'm a gold business customer, so if they can mess up mine, then god help you) please take notes of who you speak to, take their names, locations and direct dials at every time during your order management. Another thing to check is if your current property has b/band line already - again this caused problems as this had to be 'released' from the current supplier - all fun and games!
