New Years Eve

We are holding a New Years Eve party at our house for approx 12 people, all close friends/family aged 25-30ish. Any ideas of games we can play? We've kind of exhausted drinking games so any inspiration will be fab! Bear in mind we'll be in black tie and posh frocks so nothing that's going to get us too messy!

There;s a great game available at the mo, like roulette, where there is a box full of chilli shaped chocolates, and some of them or one of them contain a real chilli....Cargo have some good like murder/mystery games, kinda role play things.

How favourite dinner party boardgame is Cranium which is a mix of charades, pictionary, trivial pursuits - not sure if 12 may be too many though.

Game of Articulate - numbers not important (as long as at least 4 people) - top game, bit like the last round of "they think it's all over" where you have to guess the name on the card, without saying that name. Excellent for our dinner parties, especially if the booze is kicking in. Another idea which a mate of mine had (which is a bit cheaper than buying the game of Articulate), stand an empty cornflake box on the floor. Take it in turns to pick the box up - you can only touch the box with you mouth (i.e. pick it up with your teeth). The only parts of your body to touch the floor are below the ankle. After each round, cut an inch strip off the top of the box.

If you can get hold of "Taboo" it'll really get you going... fun, excitement and lots of arguments!!!

Musical chairs. Good, clean fun and especially hilarious in posh frocks and suits.

The best party Ive been to was a Mrder Mystery one where we all had to dress as a character .We had to answer questions etc in the manner of the character.With food appropriate to the setting (the box gives ideas for this) and several drinks it should go with a wow .

2 teams of 6 obviously. (men versus women??) get some sort of timer , about 1-2 mins. 1 person from each team has to don thick gloves and eat pieces off a mars bar with a knife and fork. when timer stops next person from team takes over. winner is first team with mars gone!

If you can get hold of a couple of dance mats and the playstation game this would be brilliant. This is real good with drink inside you. Not so much a game as entertainment for the others!

Can I just say that if you know that some of your guests have 'secrets' be careful! Many years ago when Scruples was first launched, about ten of us played and were having lots of fun working out who was telling the truth about what they would do in a certain situation. One of the men who was known to be a womaniser (but not by his girlfriend) was asked a question about two-timing and it became obvious from his reply and reactions from others that he was up to tricks again. After a huge row between the womaniser and his long-suffering girlfriend, he managed to talk her into staying with him. He bought her a hamster the next day and I swear to you, she called it Scruples! He had no scruples - she had no marbles!
