You get the hole in the middle with the three piece seat
one piece...



sorry couldn't resist!
With a two piece the whole lid and seat are raised when you lift them. A three piece a small section at the back that dosn't raise when you lift the seat or lid. A bit difficult to explain but look at the picture here and see where the hinges are.
