someone is using our home address - how to stop it

Hi , Dont know if anyone can help me but i am becomming increasingly concerned about the number of telephone calls / non spam mail i am getting for a person who has registered our details at this address its an ex coucil house and I know the details are not the last owner of the house. we are getting debt collectors and all sorts. please can anyone advise me how to remove this guys details from our address. First of all register with the Telephone Preference Service and the Mail Preference Service. It's free of charge and will stop any unsolicited phone calls or mail.

In the meantime any mail that arrives write on the envelope "Not Accepted" then drop it into the mail box to be returned to sender.

It may be worth your while to do a credit check on your house number and postcode. If it appears unfavourable you can have any bad credit details from a previous occupant removed. May take a bit of time but it should stop your unwelcome visitors.

I hate to disillusion you, but registering with the TPS does NOT stop unsolicited phone calls. I have personal experience of this. However, they do hang up pretty swiftly when you point out that you are registered with TPS and that they should not have called you.

Thanks to all of you who replied. i am now registered with the tps and mps (thanks for pointing that out :D )

if you find out that someone is using your address for credit references , if you do a credit search will that point it out and what can you do to stop it?

Do a credit check on your address. If it turns up unfavourable you can ask why.

Unfortunately many "areas" are blacklisted, often due to a minority of local residents having poor credit ratings.

If your specific address comes up it should highlight the name of the person who is not credit worthy.

If that person has moved way tell them so. You may have to provide a few documents ie. utility bills, council tax notices etc to prove your credibility but once done it should sort your problem.
