Getting rid of ants

I'm trying to decide on the best method for getting rid of an ant colony that (i think) is beneath the ground just outside the house. They are around outside alot, but have recently started moving indoors, as the other morning i woke to find a glass i used for some juice donwstairs absolutely teeming with them!!!! Sufice to say i'm removing anything sweet from the room, but other than that, what are the best methods to get rid of them? I know where their point of entry roughly is and have thought about some poison bait, but am unsure what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

You can buy anti-ant powder which you squirt around the point of entry. Personally I find stamping on them most satisfactory. They are very short-lived and seem to disappear of their own accord after a few days so they're hardly worth bothering about - it's only my other half who is paranoid about them.

Never known ants to survive it. Carry it back to the nest and they all dissapear.

Sounds daft but ordinary Talcum Powder does the trick, they don't/can't get past it !!! worked for me

I can thoroughly recommend a product called Ant Stop, which is bait sold in a little round black covered disk container, which you can buy from good hardware shops, Robert Dyas and other places which contains bait. . it works for us every time. If you place it close to where you find the ants are making a trail, they will take it back to the nest and kill them within 24 hours. At first you will find more and more ants appearing as they can't resist the stuff, but it really does work quickly. You use a white powder but it's terribly messy and gets washed away by rain.
