We are suddenly being deluged with ants in the kitchen especially on the worktops. Is there a reason for this sudden influx and also a way to treat them at source?

There's no real reason ants decide to invade certain parts of the house rather than others but they do prefer smooth surfaces. You can buy some ant poison usually bought in a tube. A drop or two in their path is enough. They take this back to the 'nest' and the whole lot are wiped out in a day.
Hope this helps
You can buy some little round things (sorry can't remember what they are called) that you snap a bit off, stick it round where the ants are and they are gone in a couple of days. Have a look in your local hardware shop or supermarket. They come in a pack of two.
Ant Stop. Bait station.
