laurel bushes

I recently planted 12 laurel bushes to make a dense hedge. I have noticed that some of the leaves are turning brown and some are all shrivelled up and look as if something is eating them? how do i cure this problem.

I also planted twelve laurel bushes to make a hedge. As of today two, possibly three of the twelve have leaves which have turned brown then started to drop off. I'm afraid this means that the plants have not survived the replanting and will have to be replaced.
