Unlevel Kitchen Floor!

Whilst hubby was at work, I pulled up some very old vinyl flooring in our kitchen. Underneath it were several layers of nailed hardboard, which I also pulled up (hard work!). This revealed an assortment of concrete & floorboards & is very eneven! Should we take up the floorboards & cement the rest, or dig up the cement & lay floor boards? Any easy suggestions please? P.S. The floor is approx 15'x7'.

If the existing flooring is sound and not likely to degrade due to damp or similar then I would recommend a self leveling compound to cover all the gubbins and then you can tile or put flooring on top.
Or you could use 9mm marine ply and cut and screw this to the concrete and to the floor at about every 4 inchs all the way round this way you can still walk on your floor as soon as you have done this and the ply wont break up on the wooden floor after a few good walks over. With SLC pouring it on might and most certin splash up and on kitchen units, Doors and Walls, No matter how carefulyou are, Because with that stuff it has to be mixed to a water like texture. At least with ply all you get is saw dust and even then that is outside where you cut it.
Now with the uneven floor.Before you lay the ply buy a small roll of wooden floor underlay and lay that down on the lower places. Just because it is spungey it will still take the differance out of the levels once the ply is on.
now with the cost Two sheets of 8x4 small roll of underlay and screws this would cost around �30/�40 pounds.
Dont forget this will be the best result as it will be nice and flat for tiles or vinyl. Good luck

Thank you BobbyLove01, we're going to B&Q 2moro to have a look at all the options. As our floor is a mixture of f/boards & concrete, we'll probably end up with one of the the suggestions you made. It was such hard work pulling up all the vinyl & layers of nailed down hard board, but it'll be worth it in the end! Hubby was really shocked when he got in from work, especially when he walked into the garage & saw what I had shifted on my own! He also said it reminds him of when I pick at corners of wallpaper, then rip it all off - & guess who gets to finish it - yes him! Well variety is the 'spice' of life! I just get bored since I left my job of 25 years!
