I asked if she had any experience and she said no, but she figured that it would be easy. She got an empty shop did it up with her boy friend, found a supplier and just opened. She just got a few books on floristry and went from there. She's been really successfull and the shops doing pretty well. You can check out her website here. www.theflowergalleryonline.co.uk. So I would say if you have the bottle then you don't need anything. There are various florist courses and exams, but when was the last time you asked to see a florists quailifications before you purchased some flowers.
If you want to explore the education route, have a look at learndirect.co.uk - they have job profiles and loads of information on qualifications. your local college willl probably run a floristry course. i am sure though that you could do an apprenticeship by working at the florist - natural creativity, design savy and a knowledge of flowers probably equal lengthy qualifications. Might also be worth doing a business course - you can sometimes get them free through your local chamber - if you want to set up shop.
