Cream leather sofa HELP!!

We have a beautiful 3 seater designer sofa and matching armchair in cream leather, which we bought from the developer who had furnished the house when we bought it. We don't tend to use the armchair much, but the 3 seater sofa is damaged really badly - not just denim stained. I regularly used a specialist leather clean and feed to remove dirty marks and the worst of colour stains, but now it's almost as if the leather coating has 'rubbed' off, as its grey and dull underneath and fabrics are sticking to it :(

One option is of course getting it re-covered (which I know will be expensive albeit cheaper than replacing it, even though i can't find where its from!), as the seat and back cushions aren't seperate to the rest, so the whole thing will probably need removing. Plus, it has cyclindrical (sp?) head rests like those you see in a car, that adjust up and down!!

It's past the dirty stage by the looks of things, but has anyone else had a similar problem and what did you do? I've seen plenty of threads on cleaning the leather, but nothing about this sort of worn, greying effect. The sofa is about 3 years old.

Any suggestions or thoughts welcome! Help me save my sofa!! EmEd xx

Perhaps it is what they call leather faced and this may explain the worn appearance. However a suite should'nt look like that after such a short time...can you get in touch with the developer to see if he can help.
I think you will find recovering a suite of any kind can be more expensive than buying a new one. I would get an expert to come and have a look at it and give you their advice on what is the best thing to do. Hope this helps and good luck!

i think getting in touch with the developer is probably the best solution TBH, luckily she owns a club locally that my friend works at so maybe he can have a word with her for me (she's out of the country a lot). If I wasn't sooo in love with the sofa (is that wrong??) I'd just buy a whole new suite, but the 3 seater alone was apparently over �2,000!!

It sounds as if the finish has broken down. This is usually caused by a build up of dirt or body oils.

I don't know what make of cleaner you have used but a lot on the market simply don't do anything and leather should not be 'fed' as this can cause problems especially on pigmented suites.

You really need someone to come out and look at this, it may be restoreable.

Well... I am not going to pretend that cleaning your own leather is a good idea. If you don't want to create a bigger issue with your leathers or furs you should have them professionally cleaned. There are so many factors that can cause issues that if you don't understand you can really mess them up more. I speak from experience. I found an online company that cleans leather and they even have some good information on their site as well.
