soda crystals work really well on all different stains but whether they would help with oil & petrol I really do not know but worth a try. Buy a bag of soda crystals from any supermarket or Wilkinsons, about 58p for a packet. Follow the recommended amount on the packet & add your normal soap powder in the washing machine with the crystals. Wash at the hottest temperature your overalls would allow ie if cotton then the hottest wash. you might have to do it a couple of times. hope this helps.
With my own boiler suits, when they got to the utterly disgusting oily greasy stage, I used to put them in the washing machine on a hot wash cycle with a double handful of Swarfega. Yes, really! And they'd come out as well as they were ever going to.
One problem is when there's polyester in the fabric, the dirty oil and grease dyes it, and the stains won't ever be got rid of.
Vanish Oxi action fabric stain remover.
