What do I do with lillies when they have finished flowering?

I planted some in my garden last year and they produced beautiful blooms this year.

Thank you, but I meant what do I do with the stalks and leaves. Do I cut them off or just let them die back?
hi cybele, mine are just about on their way out too - each year i cut them right down to just above the soil, and they grow back every year. i tend to do this around autumn. i'm no expert but this works for me each year.

Thank you! That's exactly what I needed to know.
I usually remove the dead flowers heads as soon as they become unsightly. The plant doesn't waste any energy making seeds so you should get lovely flowers next year. I usually leave the stalks on until the first frost.

Can you tell me what is eating the stems and leaves though? I have used a bug spray to no effect.
