Sounds like you're overfeeding it. Think of coconut palms in ther tropics with their roots in sand and salt water. Not much in the way of nutrients there!
From travel and observation, I've also come to the conclusion that these plants need a breeze to do well. and will suffer in a still atmosphere.
try collecting rainwater and using that. it's less harsh
Sorry madcoww, but youre killing it with kindness!
It really needs to be fed every three weeks, with a liguid houseplant food, diluted with water at 1/2 the amount recomended by the manufactureres. (summer only)

WATERING. Keep it moist, once or twice a week should be enough in the summer. Do not get water on the nut itself, as this can cause it to rot. It needs to drain freely but not sitting in water. Keeping a dish under the pot with pebbles in but not quite covered with water will also help raise the humidity.

Light. It can be kept in full sunlight but avoid misting the leaves if it's sunny, as the dropplets can act as tiny magnifying glasses and burn the leaves.

REPOTTING. Do this in the spring but only when it is completely pot bound, disturbing the roots as little as possible.

CLEANING. Wipe the leaves over with a damp cloth, or better still stand it out in the rain to wash it (Avoid Leafshine!) Good Luck. Tbird+
