When is a gable end a full gable end or only one side of a gable end!!
Our assumption of the quote for 2 gable ends to be re-mortered was that front and back would be done...roofing man says no, only front side quoted for, this after having started the work...what do you think??

is the other side of the gable end exposed to the elements?and are you having your ridge tiles re-pointed or your brickwork on the gable end(s)
if it is the latter why are you not employing a bricklayer to do a bricklayers job
you would,nt ask the brickie to repair the roof ,or would you?
i asked my dad this question as he is a roofer if you have a detached house you will have two gable ends and a front and back a semi or end terraced you will have one gable end hope this helps
I think you are being conned. Two gable ends means both ends. Time for some hard negotiating.
Roofers I've come across do their own mortaring of the verges.

Much appreciate your replies ,thankyou...the house is detached and in actual fact there are 3 gable ends..2 to the main part of the house, one side of which does not need doing, and then an attached garage with dormer bedroom above with a gable end which he is doing ok..it is the house gable above that which he seems to think he should only be doing the front end of even though we put it in writing to him as gable needed repointing..he is also doing all the ridge tiles....c
