Square bathroon shower rail.
6 Answers
Hi
I have purchased 8300953 shower rail from Argos and am using it as a square. Due to the fact that my walls are like corrugated cardboard inside and are not very thick, the fixings I have had to use are not to long with a butterfly plastic fixing and screw. Due to this the top screws are coming away from the wall and looks like it needs some thing from the ceiling to hold the other side of the rail for support. Would you have any suggestions as to what I could use.
Thanks

Depending how useful you are and if you want to spend another 12.99 on another rail. I personally would look into the feasibility of making a support to the ceiling out of the other rail.
Or you could purchase a length of thin flat profile aluminium bar, (available from most Do-it-Yourself stores) then drill a hole in one end and bend the bar over at 90 degrees, this will be for attaching it to the ceiling.
Then cut the bar to length the distance from the ceiling to the bottom of the existing rail, and then drill and attach with a self tapping screw to the rail.
Even nylon cords from each corner of the rail to the ceiling may be another option. Hope you manage it.
Or take it back and have a bath instead.

Hi, Unscrew it and take it back to Argos, smile at the assistant and explain that it is not fit for purpose and that it will not hold a shower curtain.... they are normally ok and will swop it for one with a steady bar, just pay the difference.
second option , get some metal wall plug fasteners and use them they will not pull out the wall if fitted correctly.

Sounds like the wall is a studded wall, so we are taking about fitting it to plaster board only, unless the wooden studs can be located with a stud locator such as this, in which case it can be fastened with just ordinary screws.

Failing that, try something like these wall plugs, fastened with these the screws should not pull out.
