I have a damp smell in the bathroom and believe its coming from under the floorboards. I live in a bungalow. There is a gap between the floorboards and the earth below. It happens worst when its been raining. Could it be the water table under the house that causes this? If so how can I fix it? What products fo you reccommend?

Can't really recommend anything unless it's known what the problem is. I would get the floorboards up pronto and investigate. If it's the watetable then it should never even reach the damp proof course, foundations should have considered this before the build. It could, of course, just be a smell without any poblems..

Do you think you may be suffering from rising damp. There are a number of meters for sale at a very reasonable price. Better to locate the problem yourself before calling in an expert.

Thanks everyone for your replies... I will rip out the floorboards and have a look, hopefully its just a leaky pipe after all I think the guy who renovated the house was a bit of a cowboy judging by other little bits around the house!!! Cheers, will let you know..
