Double glazing costs
1 Answers
We're looking to replace some of our windows using a reputable double glazing company. Have received wildly varying quotes. Anybody got any 'inside' knowledge on what's a reasonable ball park figure, eg per window? It's hard to know what we could negotiate down to...
Many thanks in advance.

Firstly I would get together at least 3 quotes, one from your reputable company, another from a similar sized company plus one other local double glazer. Best thing to do is to get recommendations from family friends or neighbours or try yellow pages if you're stuck.
Get them to quote for the same things as some places offer thermal K glass as standard, but their prices will be higher. You will no doubt be aware of the many extras involved which all add to the price, number and size of windows, number of openings, fittings, handles, leaded or stained glass. Make sure that the quote includes any re-plastering and tidying up as removing old windows will result in lots of mess and broken plaster where the frames fit into he building.
Had 4 replacement windows some years ago this was from someone in the trade and was cash in hand no questions no comeback. For two bay windows 2m w x 1.5m h x 0.5m d each with two opening lights and two smaller windows 1.60w x 1.3m h with one opening cost at todays prices 6000.
Work took a day and a bit to complete and frames have been OK so far but some of the double glazed units need replacing as they now have condensation in them.
