does anybody know of any plant that grows in the winter and flowers and reaches a few feet to cover a shed etc.

Yes, there's one called 'Clematis Armandii' which is a perfumed clematis evergreen, with a white flower. We bought 4 of them to grow all year round, inbetween, up & around the trees at the bottom of our garden.
