I understand that rhubarb should not be eaten after the month of June, is this correct and why? cheers

Well I eat it all year round - fresh when in the shops & out of tins after that! Sorry that wasn't much help was it?
Mhmmmmm that's a new one on me. Only last week I ate a rhubarb crumble I'd made with rhubarb from my in laws garden, and it was delicious. BTW...frozen rhubarb is good if fresh is out of season.
We grow rhubard in our alotment which hasn't grown fully yet, so if we ate it before june then it wouldn't taste so nice.
I really admire anyone who can eat rhubarb just reading about it sets my teeth on edge. Looks like it shouldn't be eaten from late May onwards. Found this on a website: After late May to early June, it is time to stop harvesting and allow the plant to produce summer growth for continued bearing the following season. In some seasons, rhubarb will produce seedstalks. These should be cut and discarded immediately as rhubarb that produces seed also produces less foliage, resulting in less vigorous crop the next year.
