This is very difficult, especially in London. I've lost count of the number of times, I've either been ripped off, had shoddy work carried out or had work left unfinished by workmen.

You are doing the right thing, asking for recommendations. One company I did use, who's work was reasonable, was a company based in Streatham, called Segresil. It's a Polish company and the owner is actually female. Only thing is, it's difficult pinning them down, as they always seem to be in Poland.

So you are not overcharged, a good price to go on for labour is about 80 to 120 per day, per workman. I just had my kitchen done and purchased all the units, built in oven, sink and tap, work surface, tiles etc myself, this all cost about 600. My builder and his mate have taken about 10 days to install it, including all the electrics, plumbing, tiling, flooring, painting and decorating. I think a reasonable amount to pay for a new kitchen, including materials, is a maximum of 2000.

Thanks for that info Velve. I shall make a note of that company.Sounds very reasonable price wise as well.
You always expect to be ripped off when they know you are a woman alone. Glad to hear a Woman runs the company,
2000 for a kitchen, that doesnt go far
not for a half decent one anyway

I was expecting to pay much more than that just for the fitting and its not an extra large kitchen I will be going into.Do you have any other suggestions ? Adamhornsby
Well obviously a high spec kitchen would be very costly, if you wanted real wood units, marble or granite surfaces, natural stone floor etc, then it would run into thousands, but for a basic, bog standard kitchen, which looks nice and is functional, then I personally wouldn't pay more than 2K.

I was comparing it with what I did in this house last year. I had new doors, new wood work surfaces and a new S/Steel sink and that cost me 2100, thats with an OAP discount!! And it looks like a real bodged up job.
you can spend how much you want, but it depends on the outcome. i you want a unique, built to last kitchen, its worth paying extra opposed to a run off the mill type
Question Author
Well thats what I am after Adam but who do you recommend???
you could always try a magnet trade kitchen for a basic one. they are cheaper than the retail ones but a lot better quality than other makes
Question Author
I shall try them Adam and thanks for yor time
