How easy is it to replace an electric shower? Is it just a case of taking the old one out (after turning off the supply of course!!) and putting the new one in? Which is the best to buy?
It is very easy, just dial a part P registered plumber or electrician as it is against the law to DIY with electrics in the bathroom. You may also have to upgrade the cable and the fuse at the consumer unit aswell, depending on the wattage of the shower. And finally Mira showers are the choice of most installers as they are very reliable and good quality showers. Buy the highest wattage shower you can afford the higher the wattage the more powerfull the shower.
Technically you can still do it yourself provided you make a Building Control application to have the work inspected. But since few people have the DIY skills for this and it will cost you about 100 in Building Control fees, Gasman's answer applies.
Cheers All. I forgot about the new law regarding DIY with electrics (you'll have to get an electrician in to fix a new plug before long!!!). I know a plumber, so I'll get him in to fit it for me. Our other shower has only been in for about 3 years, but we've had it for 2 years beforethat in a box, so no guarantee. The wiring was passed, so upgrade shouldn't be needed (hopefully)
