No blooms on my hydrangia plant

I have a hydrangia plant in full sun that has been in the ground for the third year. I cut it way back the first year and lightly the second. It is growing well and is about 18 inches across with good green leaves, but no flowers. How many years does it take to bloom or do I need to feed it something. Thanks!

Hydrangea branches won't bear flowers until the second year after cutting back.

If its any consolation I know of several people complaining about the same thing this year including me. None of us can imagine what is wrong. Even the ones that have flowered haven't many blooms. Bit fed up about it as they usually give such a good show. Better luck next year eh?
