I live in an old building which has been converted into a few apartments, however a person who lives in my street feels the need to repeatedly park his car overnight on the rear car park which is our private property as we own the free hold of the land. What are my rights? What can or can't I do in the eyes of the law?

You would need to say which country or poss US state you live in to get an answer to this. I presume that you have mentioned this to the person in question and asked hime/her not to do this?
If you are in England you should write to this person politely pointing out that they are parking on somebody's property, and politely asking them to stop.  If you need that space to park your own car, say so.  If he continues to park there for 20 years, he could acquire a legal right to do so.

Or just get a sign made similar to those in shop (staff) car parks that trheaten to clamp and charge. This will be quite cheap- a pack of adhesive letters.

If they persist, you can then get a company to clamp him, i doubt this will cost you it will cost them though.

First off, you need to approach this person politely, and advise them they are trespassing by parking on your property. I would also as a matter of course purchase signs from your local DIY which reflect this situation. And if these don't stop this problem, I would let all of the tyres down every time they parked there, and let them know I did it!!! They will eventually get the message...........
