Since acquiring a dog who chews up everything that comes through the door I have now put a post box on the outside wall for all my mail and newspapers.
However, I want to seal up the letterbox in the door so I don't get anything posted through it.
Does anyone know where I can buy a blank plate/cover to screw over the existing opening?

Hi craft.
I don't know of any such thing but I'm sure a local hardware shop could help.
Instead of doing that, why don't you fit/hang a wire basket behind your letterbox? Your dog won't be able to get at the post. Also, those outside boxes are not always good for larger letters/small packages so you would still have use of your letterbox if you fit a basket.

thanks mrs_o - unfortunately the door goes back onto a kitchen unit so there is no space for a basket. Anyway you haven't seen the size of my postbox - I think it will be a listed tourist attraction soon.....
lol
Be careful your local council don't use it to house a homeless family then!
cut a piece of lets say 3 by 2 to the size of the letter and then mastic round the wood.
mmmmm on second thoughts i take that back don't do it.
it sounds like a bit of a chore actually
cut the side of 1pint plastic milk bottle and staple to letter box....now that's crafty ;)

any DIY is out as I am useless - at the moment it can't be used as it is taped down with some really thick stuff my builder put on but it looks bl00dy awful - come on chaps I'm relying on you.
I emailed wickes who wrote back saying they knew what I wanted but didn't have it!!
