i recently bought some plants to put into pots around my garden but they all seem to be dying. i used proper peat. i thought maybe i'm either watering them too much or not enough. can anyone tell me if there is a gadget on the market that tells you when a plant needs watering. even my house plants all die

I don't know if this helps but I have two very large pots in the garden and stand them in suitable, 2" deep, plastic saucers (obtainable from the garden centre).
When it rains the water filters down into the saucers. If it doesn't rain then I make sure the saucers are always full so that the roots can go down to the water if needed.
I suppose similar saucers could be used indoors but water would obviously be needed from the top as usual, the saucers acting as a reserve.
