How is the best way to clean a marked sandstone fireplace

Mix a solution of warm water and laundry bleach at about 3 parts water to 1 part bleach. Using a semi-stiff brush and lots of elbow grease, you'll find that it will come clean... (Obviously, you'll want to put down plastic paint throws to protect carpeting or other materals that could be affected by the bleach).
