After meeting a girl from cambridge, i was seriously surprised by her... lets say, lack of 'common' knowledge. After going to uni and living all round the country 99% of people know what im on about, even if i dont say things the same as them. But this girl astounded me, first of all she didnt know what a 'chippy' was, then wasn't too sure what a 'butty' included, then even worse, thought 'telly' was just a made up word. there are a couple more example but i shant go on, the only shortened down word i think she knew was 'wellies'. Are there still people like that out there?

Sounds like my daughter....and we're common as muck..!!
are the worlds influenced by australian slang?
words!!!!
My ex is a chippy.
Its nothing to do with 'posh', more to do with regional colloquialisms......like 'tea' for dinner up north.
was she english?
I always wonder why they call it 'tea'
Perhaps there is a local custom to have Dinner early ...

... at Tea time ??

JJ x
do you have wine with 'tea' oop-norf? ;)
we call it tay - not posh
could look for cambridge colloquialisms or how the accent got to be the way it did!!
