Moving house advice
Hi all
We put an offer in on a house in october and had it accepted. The current owners asked if we wanted to move before xmas to which we all agreed would be a push so agreed january would be ok. We are currently living in a rented house and the landlord decided that if we were moving in jan he would sell the property, this looking like march time now. On speaking to solicitors today it seems the people above are buying a listed property and are wanting some planning permission sorting on a garage before they move and we have been told that this could take a couple of weeks to be decided, then about 10 weeks to be approved then their solicitors would need approx 6 weeks to do the conveyancing!! Our conveyancing is done and we are ready to go!! I am currently pregnant, have a 2 year old and in march facing being homeless. We couldn't afford to find another place to rent until we can complete as by the time you have paid the bond and the rent etc that would eat into our deposit for the house we are buying (plus I dont want to move twice). Where do I stand with this? Can I ask if they can let us complete and they move into rented or friends until their side is sorted? Surely them sorting a garage out is their problem and should be done once they are in the house.

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.It seems to me they like their comfort zone and to hell with yours, are they saying if they don't get planning permission they will stop put? in my view planning permission on a listed property can take a very long time and the answer could still be no. i would be tempted to put my cards on the table and tell them its now or never.
Tell them that it's completion in January/February or the deal's off (the garage is not your problem) and actively start looking elsewhere. I know that sounds harsh but house-buying is like that in my experience. You could also appeal to your present landlord for an extension - you might get more sympathy there.

talk to your solicitor , they requested after xmas for the move and you have stuck by that " which was good of you even though convienant" the deal has been made and therefore you want closure .
storing a car is much easier than housing people and property and a lot cheeper to boot.
Resentment will be felt if either side pulls out but facing being homeless is far more worrying than any garage.
There is nothing wrong with asking to finalise the deal and wanting to move in . as it is still a buyers market and everything barring the finalising of the deal is done , it is now up to them to get moving if they actualy want to sell this property .
They are holding you up not the other way round. with this in mind a cut of point should be arranged and soon if you are to not face further unwanted expense
