A water leak is leaking 15litres a minute of water from a broken pipe, would this class as an emergency? when you do the math and work out how much water is being lost a day it seems to me to be very exsesive.

If the leak is between the main/water meter and your home you are responsible for the water lost, and for the repair thereof.
Of course if you have metered water it may make it doubly expensive.
I hope you mean a leak in the street main?
How do you know you are losing 15 lt per minute...it would suggest that you are using the meter to calculate this figure. Which then tells us that the leak is after the meter, which means its your problem.
Between the meter and your property is your bit.

...15 lt per minute... is 900 lt per hour.
900 ltrs is just short of 1000 ltrs which equal.. 1 cubic metre.
You pay for your water in cubic metres...
(Our water is approx 90p per cubic metre)
Which means it's costing you around about £1 per hour...day and night.

More bad news ...they also charge you a fee for waste water ...So if the water is going past the meter, they charge you for disposing of it, even if you have'nt used it.
Someone needs to dig a hole, and find it soon.!

Why not be green and thrifty......fill some bowls and the kettle...it's easily turned off at the meter, and just turn it on when you need it..Certainly turn it off at night and straight away you have halved your loss.
alavalaf, that`s one of the best answers I`ve seen in a long time. VG.
Just one point, between the stopcock (where it enters your property, usually at the end of the drive) and the meter is also your responsibility, not just after the meter.
if it is is between stop cock in house and stop cock in rad ring your insurance company, if it is after then call your local water authority
I've had 2 leaks under my drive and on both occasions they were fixed FOC.
BG offer water main insurance for £21 per year. Seems like good value ifn this leak is costing a £1 an hour
