Drilling ceramic plates

Right. I now know how to drill tiles but I also need to drill some plates. I can drill through from one side but it pushes the glaze off the bottom any suggestions please. Other than give it up!)

Start drilling from the side that will be seen.

You need a very high speed diamond tipped drill, and stick a small piece of sellotape on the plate and some very thin oil fed on the drill as you drill. Practice on an old plate first.
You are not going to nail them to the wall are you..?
You could try drilling a very small pilot hole, and then start from both sides with the full size drill making sure you only penetrate the glaze before moving to the other side - but even then the pilot hole might make a bigger chip on emergence sometimes.
