I have a bad pain in my shoulder which goes round into my shoulder blade. I cannot lift my arm above head height without real bad pain. I can’t think what I have done to get this but I do have done a physical job and often worked with my arms above my head with heavy weights. This has been my way of life for 35 years fitting beams and coving in buildings, also removing ceilings etc.
It seemed to come on suddenly, and wondered if it was caused by throwing a ball for my dog but can’t immediately link the two. I have had this pain for 4 weeks now and it doesn’t seem to getting better. The doc just said maybe arthritis and said there was nothing he could do. I don’t think it is that as it as it came on so quick. I have tried hot pads cold pads tens unit all to no avail. I do get some relief from Nurofen but cant use these for long as I have Athstma and that start up! Knackers yard maybe?? Many thanks for any help.

I advise you go see an osteopath. This kind of pain when it comes on sudden without having stretched a muscle or something can be emotional, due to stress or just down to being de-hydrated. An osteopath can help with this. BUT it has to be a good one so start asking around for a good address. I have one here in France and he has relieved many a friend in just one appointment, two maximum.
I am not quite clear of your position.
Have you had a X-Ray of the shoulder?
Which shoulder left or right?
Have confirmed that Ibuprofen makes your Asthma worse?
Question Author
Never thought of an Osteopath. I do know a good one actually. Thanks.

Left shoulder no x ray. Also Ibroprofen not reccomended with asthma sufferers!!
Left shoulder....the you do need a chest X-Ray and an X-Ray of your left shoulder.

Ibuprofen does NOT make asthma worse in all cases....only a few.

Until you have had the above investigations, then you are "flying blind"
does your asthma start up when taking nurofen or is it that it MAY start up

Mine will come on severely with just one tablet, to the point that i just want to give up trying to breathe, as i found out once. Id never take it again.

My asthma doesn’t always start with ibroprufon but it makes me more prone to an attack. Having had asthma for 35 years I know what I know re my asthma. Ibro may not cause problems with all sufferers but it is not recommended to mix them together. It is better to have an ache or pain I guess is the theory than having risk an asthma attack and poss heart failure!!
