Use a good quality glass cutter - should cost 10 - 15 quid. Lightly brush the glass with thin machine oil and draw the glass cutter firmly down in one continuous line. Not too heavily, you should feel the wheel scratching the surface. Place something like a pencil or similar under the line you have made in the glass, and press lightly on each side. The glass should snap cleanly down the score that you made (cover with a cloth before you press, for safety). It comes with practise, honest!
