cursor arrow sticks to left hand side of computer screen

Has anyone encountered this, on Windows startup my mouse cursor sticks to the left hand side of the screen, I have to keep rebooting until it appears normally and allows me to move it around the screen. Any advice welcome, thanks

re-install the mouse driver.
is it ball mouse or optical? (does it have a light underneath ?)
Check for dirt/dust/hair on the underneath of the mouse.
