How about "Useless" - the amount of salt you would need to cope with a full journey (or even one of more than a few yards) would not fit in a car!

I wouldn't have put it quite like Sequin, but in the event of ice on the roads you do tend to see rather large lorries carrying tons of salt and grit, so perhaps this wouldn't be very practical.

What about inventing a 'phone jammer' so people can't use their mobiles when driving, as we've had quite a few near misses with these idiots?

If you're hoping that the ice will melt from the salt then it'd have to be sprayed hundreds of metres in front of your car to give it time to act. Good luck all the same.

Howabout Portagrit, or portagritter.

Totally agree with Pickle, after all it is called Answer Bank, not Ridicule Bank.

sequin - hahah good one. mate i dont fink it will work

But, as people have pointed out the amount of salt you'd need to carry to progress your journey would be astronomical.  If it's just salt to get you out of a drift then as soon as your drift melts then you're into the next one but even then you'd be carrying hundred-weights of salt.  I don't think this is a winner.

Incidentally it's not a mixture of salt and grit, it's purely rock salt that's spread on the roads.

neurosurgon - I'd go along with In A Pickle's idea.
The purpose of marketing an invention is not to make it work, but to make money. I bet you good money that if you made and "invention" called CARICE (TM) and marketed it on infomercials in the States "Fed up with not having salt with you in the car? Fed up with slipping all over the place? Get new Carice, the handy portable salt dispenser. Slip no more!" you'd make a fortune. You could even get JML to market it (or am I the only region to get those annoying ads).
I'd call it 'Peter'. Then its nickname could be 'Saltpetre'.

"Cardiment" the all purpose condiment for the car.

"Saltigo"

"Grip -O- Salt"

Something like that
