TV /PC

I'm looking for a television that a computor can be plugged into, can anyone tell me what I should be looking for please.

Assuming you are going to buy a new television then this will very likely be digital. As far as i know to connect computer the TV will need to have a HDMI input socket and your PC/laptop will need to have a HDMI output.

Some manufacturers label items as TV/Monitor if capable.

I don't think I've seen a single flatscreen TV that has not got a standard PC VGA monitor input on it.

Had to look for a new telly the other week. Got 2 in the end, a small portable (22") to tide us over while I looked for a big one, then a 40" of the same make cos I was impressed with the portable. Got both from Asda, the big one from Asda direct, both Luxor, and both have dedicated computer input and usage. Both also have USB slots meaning you can plug in a memory stick and view films and photos on that.

Just checked on Asda Direct as they sound great - but guess what? they are out of stock!

It's be harder to find one that doesn't have the socket. Nowt to do with HDMI. Standard socket!

You need to remember that the cheaper TVs have a lower resolution and if your graphics card on the computer is a basic one, the sharpness on a large TV may not be what it is on a smaller monitor.

the moral of the story is; don't buy electronics from asda... go to a proper shop where they could answer all these questions and highlight issues you wouldn't even have thought of. i know these places can seem daunting and you may be wary of sharky salesmen, so the question to ask on answerbank would be 'which electronics shops do people recommend for honest advice and non-pushy service?' you could also check somewhere like which? for the same enquiry :)

go to a proper tv shop, one with a reputation for good advice and aftersales service

in fact reading over the other answers, there is a lot of the type of advice that i spend all day debunking. it's not wrong as such, but it's not completely right either. by the way if you hadn't guessed, i sell tvs and electronics.
