The uniqueness of fingerprints is just a theory. So far it has never been disproved but there is no reason to believe it never will be.
Bit redundant now that there is DNA. Although I suppose is still useful in cases where there are fingerprints and no DNA. If everyone had their DNA and fingerprints recorded when they were born would it wipe out crime completely? I know - not possible, human rights and all that, but theoretically? Bet someone would find a loophole, somewhere.
I suppose if I got a bit of your DNA, Starbuck, I could place it at the scene of the Great Train Robbery. I'd find it more difficulat to do with your fingerprints.
Would have thought getting hold of the time machine would be the hardest part of that plan, jno.
It has been calculated that the odds of two people having the same fingerprints is one in sixty-four billion.
The following is an interesting history of fingerprinting.

I don't think even twins could have exactly the same fingerprint. Thank goodness we haven't created cloned humans!
dna could be a bit time consuming as as replacement for fingerprint security pads!
