What is the poem/shanty “My Jolly Sailor Bold” about?

Okay I know it was in the latest Pirates of the Caribbean movie but I've been so obsessed with the poem and I've always wondered what the poem is about? Not the origins just what the actual poem is about. You can find it at these websites:

Hardly well-to-do...she's left home and so lost the £3000 allowance her father was giving her! The words of the poem make its meaning clear enough. What don't you understand?

It's about a girl who left a comfortable life in London as a merchant's daughter to become the lover of a sailor (who was taken). She describes his rather dashing looks and how she is heartbroken that he isn't with her. She claims that every young maid has her "jolly sailor bold" and that they all should have them. Then she just repeats the verse that she is devastated that he must leave her.
