Goodyear have started advertising their new run on flat tyres. How on earth do these work, and do they render ploice stingers ineffective?

Run on flat tyres have been around a few years. Goodyear's "revolutionary concept" is to start pushing them harder.

Good idea for them as it's not currently recommended that you repair run-on-flat tyres and I'm sure they'll cost quite a lot more. Also Goodyear recommend an on board tyre pressure monitorring system otherwise you don't know when you've had a puncture.

There are two main types of technology you can read more about them here:

I'm sure they'd be less vulnerable to police stingers but as they're only rated to about 50mph I dare say they'd fail reasonable quickly in a typical pursuit.

The small print on the advert states a maximum range of 50 miles at a maximum speed of 50mph.
Most tyres with a nail in them will only leak air at about 5psi per week so there's very little if any new technology involved.
Would you really be confident if you knew your tyre was punctured?      I think not.
