No Incoming Calls

I have a problem with my landline. Outreach came yesterday to try and sort it. Calls out can be made but there is just a crackling noise on the line when someone tries to call in, this may be called ring trip? Anyway, after 3 hours the engineer had gone round every socket and finally took out the asdl filter from the socket behind the tv which has sky and is a smart internet tv. suddenly the phone rang. However, he didn't check the internet and now it's not working, only when the filter is put back in but now the phone isn't working, only for calls out. Apparently, when you have a modem, it says to put asdl filters in all sockets which was done, so how can I get both the landline and internet working at the same time? nb the landline and broadband are with Virgin.

Hi,
you should unplug anything that is plugged into a phone socket, including the filters. then just try the phone and modem/hub into one socket together via a filter.
if still does not work, then try a different filter. There is no reason at all why it should not work unless the filter is faulty or the phone. make sure you un-plug everything else, including sky box if its plugged into the phone socket. ring tripping is caused by either a short circuit or a " battery fault" which means your outside line is in contact with some one elses.

wow, it was so simple, a faulty filter! the asdl filter was changed and now both phone calls in and the use of internet work at the same time, yippee!!! thanks for your help annie!

Good stuff, glad its all working. easy when you know how, and, unfortunately the call centres abroad and some engineers don't know how.
