Shoe Dye?

Has anyone experience of dying shoes.

I would like to match a violet/purple coloured dress I have bought for a family wedding. If I could wear some wonderful looking stilettos as I could in my "yooof" I'd have no trouble:-))) Sadly its almost flats for me these days.

No luck searching for a couple of weeks online. I'm thinking getting a lighter colour and dying the sandals.

I also don't want to ruin a good pair of shoes so wondering if anyone has advice on the best way to go about it.

John Lewis stock Rainbow shoes as do many independant wedding boutiques. They range from the very flat to the very high. The colour match in my experience (as we used to sell them) was perfect. If you have a swatch of the fabric or a ribbon the same colour then you shouldn't have any probs.

If you are unable to find matching shoes, why not wear black shoes? Black shoes/footwear always go well with any attire.

You can dye canvas shoes with a regular clothes dye.I once did my sons deckshoes.

Cupotee, I don't know if you can manage a small heel, but about 4 pairs down the bottom of the page might fit the bill.

If you are dyeing sandals then make sure you stuff them well with newspaper to keep the straps still and don't take it out until they are totally dry. I dye lots of clothes and shoes and they only rarely end in disaster.

I've dyed leather shoes before now. Many years ago though. Worked ok. Although they did get a little worn after months of wear, but I guess one can always redo them. Don't have any rcommendations though, just bought a dye from the local shoe shop.

With regard to dying, I would get a craft spray, cover the shoes with newspaper where you don't want paint to hit, then spray them with a couple of thin coats (practice spraying first).
