Hi. I joined this site this afternoon with a question in home and gardens then had a look around the site and realised its a bit more than just a question and answer site so i might pop in from time to time. I'm not sure if you need or are expected to introduce yourself or you just get on with it. Anyway, hello! and hope I may be able to answer a few questions soon, though my knowledge is limited to self-sufficiency,gardening,animals and cooking. I suppose I could be described as an ageing hippy as this was my era and so glad it was. I've brought a bottle or three of last years Elderflower wine, some homemade honey and oat bread with a side of homemade fresh goats cheese and pickle, and some Vegan flapjacks (yes I'm one of those irritating people who do not eat animals) . Help yourselves!

hi Maydup. I arranged to plant the potatoes last weekend and it snowed of course. Hopefully I will get potatoes and onions in at the weekend. I've started my runner and broad beans in pots but have recently bought some hens so will need a garden fence around the plot before I plant the seeds. This will probably be my next question in the appropriate category.

Answerprancer my house is fragranced (or stinks, its a bit subjective lol) in Nag Champra and Nag Champra Super Hit.
I suggest doing the fence this weekend and planting the spuds the following week, that should give the soil a bit longer to warm up. They'll just sit otherwise I fear.
What type of chickens are you getting? I've got 3. They have wrecked my garden. They are currently confined to Alcatraz as Mr BM builds a better run for them.

hi Barmaid -oh that is just what I didn't want to hear about the hens as I really don't want them confined to barracks as we have 3 acres for them to roam around. I have 2 Maran Bantams, 2 Columbines that lay blue eggs and 2 Black Rocks.
You're lucky if you've got 3 acres. I've got a pretty big garden so they are now confined to half of it. When the half they are not in has recovered a bit, we'll swap. Once we've got it into full recovery, they can have the run of the whole thing until Autumn. If it gets really wet, they'll be confined (don't get me wrong, they still have lots and lots of room to run around). the only reason we've had to shut them in is that it was so wet for so many months, the whole thing turned into a mud bath. We need to get things growing again a bit.

They really are spoilt girlies. Unless the do a raid on my polytunnel and then mummy shouts.
Welcome. Hippies are a sought after commodity here to represent another corner of Society. Beside asking questions, you might be able to help others with some of your down-to-earth experience.
Hello and welcome Sebhfhion. Looks like you are fitting in real nice. :)
