My son has a 9 year old Dogue de Bordeaux which has got sticky eyes in the mornings (conjunctivitis in humans). He really cannot afford a vets fees at the moment so I was wondering if anyone could reccommend a solution. Be grateful for any help.

This link suggests that over-the-counter eye wash can be tried:

(although it might not be easy to do!).

Otherwise, does your son qualify for help from the PDSA?

Isn't cold black tea supposed to be good for bathing eyes, or salt water ? I suppose he could always visit a pet shop to see what they have on their shelves, but seriously, I think the vet is best for conjunctivitis. Could he pay the vet weekly ?
If veterinary opinion cannot be sought...for many reasons, nip to the chemist and buy chloromycetin eye ointment OR the drops and apply twice daily.
I'd trust Sqad's advice.
he really should see a vet so that he can be examined and the actual cause which may or may not be conjunctivitis can be diagnosed and appropriate treatment given. As Buenchico says could your son not go to the PDSA? You can get eye ointment from pet shops or you can use a few drops of cold tea 3 or 4 times a day which may help with mild irritations but conjunctivitis will need antibiotics.
I took my cat to the vet and was given the drops that sqad recommends.
Cold tea is good, but you need to flush the eyes out first with clean water using a cotton wool swab. If this is only recent it could be the equivalent of human hay fever, many dogs are allergic to pollen etc. If it is longer term then it needs checking by a vet as it could be entropion where the eye lashes grow inwards.
I took my cats to the PDSA clinic many years back when I just couldn't afford vets fees
When our cat had sticky eyes use old teabags [when they've cooled] to dab
around the eyes. It really does help. Tea must have some healing property in it. I see no reason why it shouldn't work for dogs as well.
