I am in the process of only getting new doors and countertops in my kitchen. I had a guy who two weeks ago - gave me a quotation which we agreed on - then he said Conne will be back in two weeks to take a template. Fine - that was about 2 and half weeks ago.
This kitchen firm is a wee family concern - and are very busy (just wanted to mention that)
Anyway decided to give them a ring to ask about them coming out re template and got the guy himself. I said to R were you not supposed to come out re the template and this what I picked up (I am only a wee wifey so dont know kitchen terminology). Oh he said I am waiting on this laser machine regarding the counter tops (I said oh is that to cut off the counter tops) no to measure them. Now surely he has measured 100s of kitchens (ie with a measuring tape) without this laser thingmabob. I did ask R do you still want to do the job - oh yes. Will ring you next week re if I can get hold of the laser. Anybody have any ideas what is happening. You know I would appreciate somebody being honest and saying they don't want to do the job then I can move on myself. TIA - sorry for it being so long. Conne
thanks Mazie - can I ask why is he waiting for the laser thingmabob for MY kitchen - surely he has done others.
Mind you I am wanting granite tops and also granite splashback - perhaps he wants to make really sure. My friend has said give him another two weeks and if he doesn't come back - then he doesn't want to do the job. Con
With granite and the like, the old way is to cut sheets of plywood to make templates for irregular shapes. It can be done with simple measurement, but mistakes are often made.
You only get one chance with granite. I guess he's been caught out before with mis-measurement.
All he had to do was to explain it a little better.
Just an update - kitchen man has rung to say he is coming (At last) on Tuesday with the laser man. I would say R does not know how to use it. Well up and onwards. Conne
And actually Anne I am sh ting a little bit here - I am having same countertop, same splashback and where original tiles are. I am going for white high gloss doors and white splashback/"where tiles were" with a little sparkle in them. God am I mad. Hope to God it turns out nice cos no turning back. then matching up with silver appliances and silver sockets etc. I do have strip lights which should light up the sparkle and my electrician has already been around to put in an extra light socket so I can have a lamp/looks like crystal shade/ball to sit on the countertop. It could be OTT but hey ho that is me. Conne
