Some weeks ago my next door neighbour's son who knows me very well and I go in and out of their house.

But I was walking Mr Harv at night and I thought I heard persistent screaming of my name - in the dark I am looking all around but it was P aged 12 - it is me Conne.

The following day I said to P why were you screaming my name when you know I am deaf. He said I don't know.

Now my mother bless her years many years ago - the young lads used to call her by her first name and she approached about 6 of them one time - let me tell you lads - it is rude what you do - call me Mrs Connemmara.

That is how I am feeling - there was a little disrespect here. Just faffing about here. Any answers.

They probably thought it was more funny 'cos they knew you wouldn't hear them. "see if I shout at this old lady, she doesn't know we're doing it" - Ha HA (not)

No disrespect at all, wouldn't even be worth a thought to me.

ok boo - where was his logic wanting me and not wanting me
Well that I don't know, I just assumed you were annoyed that he'd called you by your first name only.
If I were you and the boy has known me his whole life and knows me very well, I would be happy with him calling me "2". I wouldn't expect him to call me Mrs P.

He was with a crowd of young lads - I did feel a little intimidated - an elderly woman being screamed at by a bunch of lads - they all got into it.
Personally, can't see the problem.
That's how things are these days conne. Everyone uses first names even without asking what you prefer to be called. Even in the hospitals where it used to be Mr. or Mrs so-and-so.
Oh I didn't know there was a bnuch of them.
"bunch"
I wouldn't be happy about all his mates shouting my name at me in the dark. I think I would find that a bit intimidating too, especially if I didn't see him right away.

OK, the first-name thing is the norm these days, I don't expect anyone to call me Mrs this or Auntie that, like I used to when we were little.

Now you say he was with his mates - think nothing of it, he was just bigging himself up in front of his mates by shouting your name out, knowing full well you wouldn't hear him. No reason for it at all, just a silly lad.

well that is it 2sp - cos I just think the old thing was bad mannered. When I was young I would have been killed if I shouted after an older person in the street. Anyway sorry, rant over!!!!
Random question...how did you know he and his mates were screaming your name if you're deaf?

Boo - knew that was coming - I am not fully deaf so whatever kinda hearing I do have I picked it up and I knew they had been doing it for quite some time cos they were laughing their heads off.
If it was just him on his own shouting you to say hello, then I wouldn't really see the problem.

But I think boxy has a point. I dare say he spotted you and told his mates that he knows you. He then shouted out to you out of some sort of bravado, and all his mates joined in.

I wouldn't worry any more about it. Just daft wee laddies. Irritating at the time though.
bad manners, but that's life conn, :(

.. and if it's bothered you that much, tell his mother it upset you.

I am not worrying 2sp - but his mother is so so so respectful. Anyway this post has gone. People would say "she hasn't much to worry about today" LOL Conne
