Watching programme on catch-up and 5 minutes into the programme it froze and I can't get out of it. BT help-line is already shut for the night.
Please help.

To use the famous but often useful quote, have you tried turning it off and on again?

Yep, turn it off and count to 30. Switch it on again and you should have cleared it.

I've tried turning it off by remote and that doesn't work. Do you mean pull the plug? Will I lose channels if I do this. Sorry for being thick.

Panic over I pulled the plug and waited for it to reset. Thanks Postdog and Maydup for advice. O H will give BT an earful in the morning, lol!
