This Connection Is Untrusted

I've just turned my computer on and these are the words on the screen. T also says.....

You have asked Firefox to connect securely to www.google.co.uk, but we can't confirm that your connection is secure.

Normally, when you try to connect securely, sites will present trusted identification to prove you are going to the right place.

WHAT SHOULD I DO?

If you usually connect to this site without any problems, this error could mean that someone is trying to impersonate the site, and you shouldn't continue.

Them it has choices of .... Get me out of here. .... technical Details...... I understand risks.

What on earth is it. I tries going on to Amazon and typed n the www address, got on to site ok but when I tried to go to Printable Gift Cards, I got the same message again! What shall I do?
Please bear in mind I'm totally ignorant to IT apart from my normal sites, AB, FB, Amazon and eBay!

Check your pc's date and time settings are correct.

Personally I'd ignore it. Or better still look into the Firefox browser settings to see if one can reduce the level of alarm it caused me. Trial & error. Mind you that Google is a dodgy place !

Ah, funnily enough the time settings are wrong. Why would that affect it?

OG, it wasn't JUST google, it happened with Amazon too! Strange business.

This happens on my machine quite often. On the toolbar, if you right-click on the icon that looks a bit like a radio mast, then on 'View available wireless networks', it will show that it's an untrusted network which is 'Connected'. Click on the one that it should be instead, then the 'Connect' button.

I think my problem is that if there's a glitch on the usual connection, it goes hunting for something else - maybe a neighbour's Wi-Fi, I don't know.

I'm aware a wrong date can make a website certificate seem invalid, but surprised that a different time would cause a wobbly.

Alice is spot on, security certificates on websites are have expiry dates, if your machine date and the certificate date don't match then it will look like a dodgy site.

If your desktop continues booting up and displaying wrong time and date, suspect a CMOSS battery on the motherboard is failing. Easy to replace and looks like an oversized watch battery.
