Is there a web-site you can go on to stop nuisance calls? They are bothering a neighbour of mine who is in a wheelchair and its really getting to them as they struggle to answer the phone, thinking its family, just to be asked if they want a new boiler fitted -thanks in advance, its really bothering this poor old soul in her nineties.
Well it stops a helluva lot Tuvok. I am also ex directory and I don't get any now.
My phone has different ringtones and if I needed to I could put all friends and family onto one specific ringtone. Any other ringtone would be ignored. Perhaps Retro's neighbour could do that with some initial help.
Unwanted phone calls have virtually disappeared since I changed my number. Perhaps your neighbour might consider having a mobile phone with only family and friends numbers programmed in?
.
yeah I awaiting a hop replacement
and I stagger to the phone before it defaults and
I have to say on bad days it drives me crazy
to hear a heavy accent say; eez thees mista peeda peedant ?
I'm ex directory and my number is automatically withheld when I make calls (arranged through BT). I know that irritates some people but I don't care, I get virtually no nuisance calls.
Thank you for all your replies. This lady is one of my WRVS ladies I visit so I'm gathering all the information and we'll try to get to the bottom of it next week when I visit her. She has caller id but the phone is not next to her chair and although she's been offered a cordless she won't have one as she doesn't think they work properly. I think we can stop the UK based calls but the off shore ones I'm not sure about. I'll also see about getting her x directory, though we are x and still get boiler and PPI calls at least twice a day but they go straight to answer machine. Thanks again.
Boo that's a brilliant phone thank you for that link. LOL! one reason she's still at home and fairly independent at 92 is shes a stubborn old goat so changing her mind about her 'proper' phone may be a challenge.
Vulcan42 I've suggested moving the phone, but I think she would answer it anyway, she's of a generation where all phone calls are to be answered 'just in case'. Luckily I caught one yesterday and asked them politely to take this lady off their database, I'm making assumptions here but the person making the call had an Asian accent so more than likely from an off shore call centre and BT can't do anything about this.
I get no nuisance calls on my land line, I'm ex directory and registered with TPS. Now, the mobile, that's a different ball game altogether. I canstantly get unknown numbers calling about PPI and boiler bullcrap.
I think you may need one of these..http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/160893575994?clk_rvr_id=713404569766#ht_2539wt_1145.. they do seem to have gone up in price over the last couple of days, but still worth it. !
Alavahalf than youfor that link. lady is already registered with tps I checked her phone number on line so I shall print off details about that phone number blocker and see where we get to. Thank you all for advice.
