Is it possible to remove an answerphone message from a landline telephone so it will just ring continuously until the caller hangs up?

On my machine, if I just switch it off, the phone will keep on ringing.

I should say that this is not my phone I'm talking about. That said, how does one turn it off?
There should be a button on the base which says Answer On/Off. Press that.

Cheers, I'm going around there in about an hour so I'll have a look.
The other thing that you can do is just unplug the phone from the socket. I have tried this and what happens is that the line just rings and rings, ie caller hears ring tone but there is no sound in the house. I am not certain that this still works but I have done it in the past (around 10 years ago)
PS eventually (3 minutes? 5 minutes?) the line disconnects the caller if no one answers the phone.
It depends on the reason for wanting the answerphone off. It may be that the person wants to answer the phone but is unable to reach it in time.

Ok, thanks all.
Reason being, apparently, friend apparently never uses phone (is that poss?) but needs line for puter.
There is no button on the base for switching it off but I googled the model number and we seemed to achieved what was wanted. If not we will, as woolfgang says, just unplug it.
Watch this space!!
Once again, thanks all.
