I've tried everything including shop bought and remedies on the internet. Nothing has worked. If it helps it came from ironing a t shirt logo transfer. I have bought a new iron but is it now bin fodder or can it be cleaned and put in the cupboard for the next mishap?

I always use Lakeland's cleaner

Worked every-time and I have done some really stupid things including a T shirt logo.
Jeza,
I dont really know good iron cleaners because I use my iron so rarely that it doesnt get dirty!
Here is a site with suggestions

By the way, on Saturday I was putting out so much washing I ran out of space on the line. I put 5 shirts on hangars and hung them on the line. They all dried so nicely they didnt need ironing.
It depends on what is burnt onto it. Yeah I know a transfer but I mean it;d be trial and error as to what works.

FWIW I cleaned my woman's iron with e £1 coin yesterday. Managed to scrape off whatever it was with minimal change to the mirror surface, and I suspect an application of Brasso would probably make it perfect. But at your own risk of course.
grassy that is how the Americans "iron".
Just tell your maid to do it.
Warm iron & rub with wet brillo
Jwza...I just get my iron really hot then scrape it along the edge of the ironing board covered with an old flannel...x
Warm iron and rub candle wax liberally over it. Then wipe off.

Let us know how you got on, Jeza.
The good old Brilo Pad does the job well.
Have been using Brillo pads for 40+ years - never let me down.
You used to be able to get a white plastic ( sort-of plastic) iron "shoe" which fitted over the plate of the iron and made ironing very quick and smooth. It also solved the problem if the iron surface was mucky or damaged. Can you not get one of these ?
Agree with maggie. Get iron hot and use a brillo pad.
maggiebee, brillo pads are ace , fantastic to keep electric hob grime free
